Kenneth Turpin

Reverend Kenneth Turpin, 78, longtime Brooken Minister was called away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at his home. He was born August 9, 1934 at Pittsburg, Oklahoma to Bill and Florence (Coberly) Turpin. He served his country with the United States Navy beginning in 1952, serving both foreign and domestic until his honorable discharge in 1955. He received several service medals during his career. He was married to Shirley Alice Bush on December 26, 1955 and made their home together. They shared many life journeys together in the church and many other activities. They shared almost 58 years of marriage. He began a career in the Ministry in 1965 and became ordained the following year. He served in many area churches including Brooken and Lequire. He maintained an active role in church work and pastored as long as he was able. He often said that the Brooken area was always home. His greatest passion was collecting and selling Antiques. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Alice Turpin of the home, three sons, Kenny Randy Turpin and wife Connie of McAlester, Keith Ray Turpin and wife Jeannie of Quinton, Kent Ray Turpin and wife Stephanie of McAlester; six grandchildren, Anthony Turpin, Vanessa Turpin, Veronica Boatwright, Cheryl Turpin, Riley Turpin, Randall Turpin; three great grandchildren, A.J. Turpin, Savannah Turpin, Deacon Boatwright; one brother, Jimmy Turpin; two sisters, Debbie Harrell and Patsy Brooking. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Florence Turpin; two brothers, Ivan and Billy Turpin; as well as other family members. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Stigler First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend David Bigger officiating. The Eulogist will be Reverend Delmon Eakle. Pallbearers will be J.C. Bush, Ronald “Dink” Bush, Donnie Clayton, Hershel “Bolo” Barbee, Troy Barbee, and John Barbee. Honorary pallbearers include Jeff Bush, Kenny Cole, Andrew Bohanan, and Benjamin Bohanan. Burial with Full Military Honors by V.F.W. Post 4446 will follow at Brooken Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
