Dorothy Mae Mayfield

Dorothy Mayfield was born on October 22, 1941 to Carrie and Willie Stevens in Havana Florida where she grew up working in a cotton field with her family. She shared many joyful moments with her family, some good and some bad. She shared some hugs, and some good ol fashion whoopins. On April 8, 1961, she ran off and got married to her husband, Arthur Mayfield and from there on Dorothy and Arthur began to build a family. She had her first son Gary Mayfield, her second son, Arthur Mayfield Junior, their first daughter, Lillian Mayfield and their youngest daughter, Sheila Mayfield. From there her and Art did whatever it took to raise their kids. Dorothy was the kind of mom that made sure that no matter what her kids always had food. She could make a whole meal even when there was no food. There was several nights that she would go without eating just to make sure her kids got enough. She took care of them. She played games with them and truly showed them the importance of life. All her children grew up in Oklahoma City where Dorothy became mom to so many. In 1984 Dorothy and Art became grandparents and she earned a new name "Nannie". From there the grandkids began to come one after another. She always remained the same as she helped raise her grandkids. She loved all 7 of them like they were her own. As the years went by she was blessed with many great grandkids. She was a mom, a Nannie and a friend to many. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, cleaning, doing crossword puzzles, listening to music Spraying kids with water hose, building tents, showing tough love, joking, laughing, singing even a little dancing at times, but overall she was definitely the life of the party. She never met a stranger, and if you were one by the end of the conversation you'd know half her life story. But if we're being honest here, the most important thing to her was spending time with her family. There wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t tell one of them that she loved them! Her strength was so powerful, she never gave up on the ones that she loved. She's a special woman to so many. Her legacy will live on no matter what, every time you see one of her's you will see her. Dorothy Mayfield is survived by two sons; Garry Mayfield of OKC, Arthur Mayfield of OKC. Two daughters; Lillian Mayfield of OKC, Sheila Jarvis of OKC. Seven grandchildren; Kendra Weaver, Brittany Rohmiller, Amber McClure, Matthew Mayfield, Kerrie Mayfield, Rachel Mayfield, Danielle Mayfield. Bonus grandsons Tyrone Hill, Branden Ashley, Kyran Johnson, and Steve Rohmiler. Seventeen great grandchildren; Kourtney, Dominique, Chloe, Xander, Isaiah, Aidden, Hayden, Juliana, Evelina, Christian, Joseph, Noah, Abigail, Nicho, Kayden, Karson, Kaizen. One brother; Paul Morris Stephens of Tallahassee, Florida. She is proceeded by her parents: Paul & Carrie Stephens. Husband Arthur Mayfield Sr. Three brothers; Robert, Jerry, & J.C. Stephens. One sister, Laverne Stephens. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 5, at the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Reverend Rick Stout officiating. Pallbearers will be Tyrone Hill, Matthew Mayfield, Branden Ashley, Isaiah Smith, Dominique Weaver, Kyran Johnson; honorary pallbearers include Josh Smith, Jason Loyd, and Bobby Meredith. Burial will follow at Keota Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
