Artie Mae Robinson

Artie Mae (Johnson) Robinson was born April 20, 1924 to Robert & Mary Caroline (Downs) Johnson in Ft. Worth, Texas. At an early age after moving to Oklahoma, she was raised by Willie & Cora Lee Johnson. She married Jessie Robinson in April 1951, this union blended one son from husband and together they had eight children. She began her education at the age of 5 at Loveland Separate School and transferred to Wycoff for a year then switched back to Loveland. In her teenage years, one of the most memorable times was walking 12 miles to school. In 1939, she moved to Grandfield where she graduated High School from Grandfield Turner’s Industrial in 1946. After graduating high school, she attended Langston University for 3 years. She had a Heart of Gold and strong desire to help others. She started her professional career as a Head Start Teacher in Grandfield, OK. for ten years and also worked in Health Care (CNA,CMA), Food Service, and environmental services in homes, nursing homes, and funeral homes. In 1997 she retired after working 27 years in the nursing home (Colonial Village) and moved to Lewisville, OK. She was a woman of many hats, she held the officer position as secretary for Rose Hill and Rising Star Baptist Church. When she moved to Lewisville, she joined Harris Chapel Baptist Church and became an active member, taking on the roles of Mission President, Usher, and Assist. Supt. of Sunday School under the leadership of the late Rev. R.C. Triplett. More recent, under the leadership of Rev. John Tottress. She became known as the “Mother of the Church” as well. She also held positions in the Central Wayland District under the leadership of Moderator Marvin L. Thompson and current Moderator, Rev. Anthony D. Washington. She played a vital role in Grandfield School events, one including being awarded the “Grandmother of the Year of FHA”. After moving to Lewisville, she became active in her surrounding community (Kinta). She was a proud supporter of the Kinta Eagles. She was known for keeping her own scores of each players point. After many years of support she was able to witness history when the Kinta Eagles High School boys' basketball team won the Gold Ball at the 2019 State OSSAA Championship. She Leaves to cherish: 5 sons, Jessie (Ruby) Robinson of Oklahoma City; Thomas (Julie) of Grand Prairie, TX; Eugene Robinson of Tulsa, Ok; Alfred Robinson of Wichita Falls, Tx, and Joseph (Bernita) Robinson of Grandfield, OK.; 2 daughters, Gloria Robinson of Lawton , Ok. and Nedra McCoy of Kinta, OK.; 24 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren; a host of many relatives, friends, loved ones, & her beloved church family. Artie is preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Mary Johnson;her husband; 2 brothers, Jesse Johnson & Robert Johnson; 2 sisters, Geraldine Ross & Cora Lee Wimberly;2 daughters, Florin and Willie; granddaughter, Tanya; 2 great granddaughters, Kanisha & Gladys. Artie Mae, a faithFul servant of God departed this life on November 26, 2020 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on services from Heart of Hospice.
