Sam F. Cochran Jr., 79, of Quinton, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Frances Hospital in Muskogee. He was born February 27, 1940 in Phillips, Texas to Sam F. and Esther (Forger) Cochran Sr. Sam grew up I several cities and states as his dad worked for Phillips Petroleum and moved many times. He settled in Sulfur, Oklahoma and worked for Spindel Wholesale for 20 years. He worked for Wonder Bread in Liberal, Kansas. Sam, married Betty Slater on December 1, 1989 in Liberal Kansas. They moved to Quinton in 1991. He began working for the Department of Corrections in McAlester from 1991 – 2010. Sam loved Fly Fishing, making Fly Tying, wood carving, reading and working in the shop. He loved his family and was a member of Quinton Church of Christ. Sam is survived by his wife of 29 years, Betty Cochran of the home; two daughters & sons-in-law, Tammy & Jimmy Howeth of El Reno, Cielita & Curtis Spain of Denton, Texas; 3 stepdaughters & sons-in-law, Sheryl & Tommy Fitch of Lindsay, Rhonda & Val Reneau of Calera, Kara & Charlie Cooper Of Lindsay; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Matt, Brit ‘ny, Caitlyn, Carl Ray, Krysti, Ciera, Cody, Ka’lisa, Jason, Delaney, Remington Bo; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Salvany. Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Esther Cochran; a stepdaughter, Donna Kay Branch. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 4, 2019 in the R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with Mr. Randy Birckell officiating. Eulogist: Pallbearers include Curt Spain, Jimmy Howeth, Jonathan Stein, Matt Howeth, Chris Howeth, Doug Spearman. Burial will follow in Quinton Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
