Mr. J.R. Harp, 82, longtime Stigler area resident died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Fort Smith. A native of Quinton he was born July 16, 1930 to Bevely and Oma (Nichols) Harp. He grew up at Quinton where he received his education. He was married to Sybil Broyles on September 24, 1948. They made their home in several states and began raising a family. He was as a mechanic for most of his working career. They made their home at Lequire and the Stigler area for many years before moving to Shady Point in 2000. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to sing bluegrass gospel music and was a faithful member of the Bennington Church at Shady Point. He enjoyed watching western movies, especially movies with “The Duke”. He enjoyed gardening and adored his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sybil Harp of the home; four daughters, Joyce English and husband Loyd of Stigler, Patricia Parvin of Pocola, Vicki Qualls and husband Joe of Shady Point, Sharon Smith and husband Doren of Whitefield; five sons, Michael Harp and wife Rhonda of Stigler, Darrell Harp of Wilburton, Pearly J.L. Harp of Huntington, AR; Gary Harp of Kinta, Terry Harp and wife Tammy of Quinton; 20 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; one sister, Linda Carney of Russellville, AR; one brother, Charles Harp of Hoyt; as well as many, many special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bevely and Oma Harp; three brothers, Herman, Bob, and Dalton Harp; three sisters, Norma Mendez, Bonnie Strain, and Jewel Fletcher; one son in law, Jimmy Parvin. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Stigler First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Tim Painter officiating. Pallbearers will be James English, David Harp, Michael Qualls, Dustin Harp, Brandon Harp and Tustin Harp. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Smith, Keith English, Todd Smith and Josh Zuber. Burial will follow at Sans Bois Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler. VIEWING MONDAY – 9 AM – 8:30 PM FAMILY VISITATION 6 PM – 8:30PM MONDAY
