Jessie Mae Meeks

December 6, 1951 - March 3, 2015

Jessie Mae Meeks, 63 of Oklahoma City formerly of Porum passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was born on December 6, 1951 in Tucson, Arizona to Jessie and Flossie (Collins) Morris. She grew up in Porum where she received her education. She married Ted Meeks in May 1969 and made their home together in Oklahoma City and Porum. She raised her family in Porum, where she served as city council woman for several years and also served as Mayor for four years. She moved to Muskogee and managed the Family Dollar for eight years, while also becoming a foster parent for several years. She returned to Porum to help raise her grandsons before moving back to Oklahoma City in 2010 where she lived until her death. She will always be remembered as loving to play music, riding motorcycles, adoring her family and friends, and always being a caregiver to all. She is survived by one daughter, Shawna Lewis and husband Lance of Oklahoma City; one son, Chanse Meeks of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Coltan Meeks, Brittany Meeks of Oklahoma City, Dalton Meeks, Skylar McDaniel of Holdenville; three great grandchildren, Avery Mae Meeks, Chevy Lee Meeks, Cade Allan Meeks; three sisters, Phyllis Kash of Porum, Judy Purdom and husband Jim of Porum, Carol Estep and husband Gary of Conyers, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives; former husband, Ted Meeks of Porum; two sister-in-laws, Pam Murray and husband Buck of Quinton, Angela Cole Flores of Oklahoma City. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Flossie Morris; two brothers, Leo Cole, James Morris. Graveside Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Coleman Cemetery with Reverend Jack Sloan officiating. Pallbearers include Chanse Meeks, Lance Lewis, Coltan Meeks, and Dalton Meeks. Burial will immediately follow under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
