Crawford Carter Hicks

Mr. Crawford C. Hicks, 84, longtime Porum resident died Monday, March 26, 2012 in Tulsa. A native of Porum he was born December 4, 1927 to Alva Lee Hicks and Sadie (Campbell) Hicks. He grew up at Briartown and was educated at Briartown, Turpin, and Porum Schools. He served his country with the United States Air Force during World War II. He was married to Denise DeLisse in 1947 and made their home together in Derby, Kansas. Crawford began a career with Boeing Aircraft Company that spanned until his retirement in the late 1980’s. He also had a wallpaper business which he operated for many years. He and Denise returned home to Porum for retirement. They loved going to auctions and garage sales. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and loved his John Deere tractor. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Porum Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by one son, Crawford Hicks II of Poteau; two daughters, Lillie Smith of Greeley, Colorado, and Sherry Hicks of Derby, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, Trey, Nathan, KariAnn, Micah, Jarold, Jynelle, Jaaron, Jack, Vincent, Damara, Christopher, and Tracy; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one brother, Shelby Hicks of Locust Grove; one sister, Katherine Hendrix of Porterville, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Sadie Hicks; his wife, Denise Hicks; one brother, Silvestic “Mann” Hicks. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Porum Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend James Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Trey Hicks, Crawford Hicks II, Shelby Hicks, Vincent Ward, Harvey Hicks, and Micah Hicks. Military Honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post #4446. Burial will follow at Coleman Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
