Ben Dixon

Mr. Ben Dixon, 92, of Stigler died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Haskell County Hospital. He was born on January 9, 1922 in Monroe to Tom Dixon and Mary L. (Sappington) Dixon. He grew up at Stigler where he received his education. He then joined the U.S. Army and served bravely in World War II. After the war he married Lillie Patterson in Wilburton on December 7, 1946 and they made their home together in Stigler. He then began working for Garland Coal Company for 24 years before retiring in 1981. He is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou Smith and husband Pat of Norman; one son, Michael Dixon and wife Judy of Stigler; two sisters, Pearl Adams and husband Raymond Joe of Broken Arrow, Pauline Hodges and husband Doyle of Stigler; five grandchildren, Stephanie and husband Eric, Krista, Mark, Mike and wife Carla, Lisa and husband Steve; ten great grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Shae, Hunter, Kaylee, Mackenzie, Hannah, Baylee, Colt, Sidney; one sister-in-law, Pat Dixon; one brother-in-law, Roland Patterson and wife Margaret. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary L.Dixon; his wife, Lillie Dixon; one brother, Fred Dixon. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Antioch Baptist Church with Reverends Elbert Owens and Heath Cole officiating. Pallbearers include Dennis Hodges, Fred Dixon Jr., Jerry Dixon, Wayne Sappington, Rick Adams, and Mark Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers include Larry Kates, Doyle Nolen, John Gilstrap, Jerry Carolan, Alvin Nolen, Johnny Alstatt. Burial will immediately follow at Garland Cemetery under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
