Lloyd Dean Dowdy

Mr. Lloyd Dean Dowdy, 67, of Stigler died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at a Fort Smith hospital. He was born December 16, 1946 in Checotah to Lloyd A Dowdy and Fern (Williams) Dowdy. He graduated from Checotah High School in 1965 and also went to Connors for a year. He worked at Oklahoma Rig and Supply for seventeen years before opening up his own business, Overhead Door Solutions. He loved to sing and perform; he had his first stage appearance at the age of six when he sang “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”. He always enjoyed spending time with and riding horses with his friends and family. He loved to play the guitar and sing songs with his family as well as his band, Real Rock Express. A fond memory of Deans was when him and Doug would set under a shade tree while working and talk about horses, mules, and coon hunting. When they did have horses to break Dean and Doug would always put Robert Lee on the horse first. He will always be remembered as being a strong Christian man who loved the Lord with all his heart. Dean is survived by his wife, Elsie Dowdy of the home; his mother, Fern Dowdy of Checotah; his brothers, Doug Dowdy of Checotah, Robert Lee Dowdy and wife Barbara of Anchorage, Alaska; his sister, Diane Mashore and husband Gary of Wilson; five children, Deana Dowdy of Checotah, Steven Dowdy and wife Carrie of Muskogee, Lucinda Aldridge and husband Mike of Bartlesville, Lisa Sloan and husband Jack of Stigler, Stephanie Orman of Stigler; ten grandchildren, Liam, Decklin, Emily, Katilyn, Ryan, Cody, Jennifer, Ashly, Daylon, Megan; two great grandchildren, Paisley and Parker; a very special cousin Jim Dowdy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his dad, Lloyd A. Dowdy. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 2, 2014 at Stigler River of Life Church with Reverend Jack Sloan officiating. Eulogist: Bill Villines. Pallbearers include Jeremy Collins, J.D. Smart, D.J. Gray, Bill Villines, Jim Dowdy, Rick Dowdy, and Gary Mashore. Honorary Pallbearers include Roy Matthews, Jack Pugh, Ronnie Curtis, John Patterson. Burial will immediately follow at Stigler Cemetery under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
