Lawrence W. Carroll

Lonny was born in Massachusetts at Fort Banks Army Base, to Roberta Grace and Edgar Carroll. When he was about 2 years old his parents divorced. A few years later Grace met Wayne Huggins, and they married; he helped raise Lonny. Wayne was in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan when Lonny was about 10 years old; at the time, he had a sister Dotty Lynn Higgins. While in Japan he ha a brother born, Thomas Huggins. While in Japan, he learned to say several words in Japanese. He would talk about playing in an area where they found several pieces of old Japanese Pottery as well as small medal cars. Anyone that knows Lonny knows he was in heaven! When he was about 12 years old, they moved back to the States and lived in California. He joined the U.S. Navy on April 7, 1960. He enjoyed his time in the Navy; he was a Boilerman on the LSD-18; he was a BT-3, which was 3rd class Petty Officer. Lonny loved the travel he got to do in the Navy, he went to Guam, Hong-Kong, Hawaii, Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan, Philippines, April 1961, He was also in the Bay of Pigs Invasion on the Coast of Cuba. He was on the U.S, Colonial LSD-18 on the Coast of Cuba; He said that they sat on the ship out on the coastline for about 2 weeks. Lonny received an Honorable discharge into the Naval Reserve on March 23rd, 1964, on April 6th, 1966; his Naval Reserve terminated. Lonny and Janet married December 2nd, 1964, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They then drove to Tulsa Oklahoma to set up to work for a Gun Show! Loved every second of it! They have five children together and their spouses, Nichole and James, Lawrence II and Joy, Gina and Jim, William and Lisa, Gary and Crystal; they have 11 Grandchildren together, Taylore, Haleigh, Fender, Gideon, Knox, Blake, Sarah, Elise and Torey, Christopher and Tayrin. Lonny was very proud of all his children; He would say many times how Blessed we were with how our children turned out. They all had beautiful children and were all well-mannered. They all have good jobs and provide for their families. They have all been blessed with good spouses. Lonny’s passion was Collecting U.S. Military Knives, Pocket Knives, guns, coins, antiques, Zippo Lighters, Liars Poker. He was always on the hunt no matter where we were. He loved to play poker with the family and friends for Nickels, Dimes and Quarters for Annie. He would set for hours going through pennies looking for 1984 and prior to, saying someday they will stop making pennies, and the Copper Pennies will be worth a little more; they have indeed stopped making pennies. He also said that they will stop making the Nickel because it costs more to make them than they are worth. Lonny and Janet were promoters of gun shows in Kingman, Arizona for about 24-25 yrs. Promoting the gun shows was a passion of Lonny’s. They got to know many people for all over the United States and made good friends with several over the years. In 2019 Lonny found out he had another half-brother Larry Carroll and half-sister Cathy Holmes, both of West Virginia. We did get to meet them both in 2021. Lonny and Janet had just over 31 years together; they were the best years of their lives for both. Lonny will be missed by everyone that knew him; he was a Wonderful Husband, Father and Friend to those he let get close to him. He knew many people, but few were very close! He is survived by his wife; Janet Carroll of Kingman, Arizona. 3 Children; Lawrence Walter Carroll II and wife Joy of Fayetteville, Ark., Nicole Carroll and husband James of Black Canyon City, AZ, Gina and Jim of Phoenix AZ. 2 Stepchildren; William Cannon and wife Lisa of Whitehouse, TN, Gary Harman and wife Crystal of Golden, ,Co. 1 Half Sister; Kathy Carroll of West Virginia. 1 Half Brother; Larry Carroll of West Virginia. He's preceded by his Mother; Grace Huggins and step dad Wayne Huggins, and his Dad, Edgar Allen Carroll. 1 Sister; Dottie Lynn Huggins. 1 Brother; Tommy Huggins. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, July 7th, 2026 @ 11:00 AM at Mountain Home Cemetery, Beaver Mountain, Ok. Officiated by Daniel Smith.
