Jake Underwood

Mr. Jerril (Jake) Gilbert Underwood, 84, of Stigler passed away peacefully Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Talihina Veterans Center. He was born on June 11, 1930 to H. H. Underwood and Myrtle (Higgins) Underwood in Stigler. He grew up in Mountain Home Community and received his education there. He married Marjorie Oldham on June 16, 1950 and they made their home together for 63 years. He will always be remembered as loving to work with cattle, enjoying the country atmosphere, and playing music. He loved baseball and loved playing at an early age. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports whether it was baseball, basketball, or football. He was so very proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments on or off the field. He loved homemade ice cream and also pumpkin pie. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving as a medic and office clerk stationed at Madigan General Hospital in Washington State. He met his wife Marjorie of 63 years in Heads Pharmacy where he worked as a teenager. He served her up a cherry coke and from that time on they were together until her passing in 2013.He was a custom home builder, grocery store owner, and a roust-about just to name a few positions he held. He made several trips residing in Bakersfield, California where he owned several grocery stores including Ridgecrest and Pumpkin Center. He could not stay away from Oklahoma so he and his family left California and returned to Oklahoma. He is survived by one son, Greg Underwood and wife Debbie of Beaver Mountain; one daughter, Valerie Hilton and husband Raymond of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren, Kristen Bindrum, Josh Hilton, Corey Hilton, Tara Buckmaster, Brent Underwood, Matt Underwood; six great grandchildren, Cailee, Tyler, Kenna, Emily, Jacob, Madison and one great grandson on the way; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, H. H. and Myrtle Underwood; his wife Marjorie Underwood; five brothers Shorty, Bryan, Ivis, Avis, and Attrus Underwood; and one sister, Oleda Martin Crowder. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 3, 2014 with Pallbearers will include Brent Underwood, Matt Underwood, Chris Buckmaster, Adam Bindrum, Josh Hilton, and Corey Hilton. Honorary pallbearers include Tyler Underwood, Tara Buckmaster, and Kristen Bindrum. Burial will immediately follow under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
