Gary Don Powell

Gary Don Powell, 75, lifelong Brooken resident passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at his home. He was born at Brooken on October 25, 1948 to Carl and Geneva Irene (Hulvey) Powell. He grew up at Brooken and graduated from Quinton High School in 1967. He was married to Roxanna McKinney on December 23, 1967. He served his country with the United States Army during the Viet Nam War. Upon returning home he began a career in road construction working for H.D. Youngman and Glover Constuction for many years. He also worked in his spare time as a mechanic working on trucks and tractors. He liked watching old Westerns, he enjoyed raising cattle and working on the farm, but most of all he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Roxanna Powell of the home; his children, Kimberly Payne and husband Mitch of Konawa, OK., Steven Powell and wife Shell of Red Oak, Ok., Dawn Powell of Stigler, Ok., Dusty Powell and wife Sydni of Water Proof, Louisiana, Kelli Powell and boyfriend Cody Broome of McAlester; 6 grandkids; 11 great grandkids; his sisters, Margaret Madison and husband Gary of Cordell, Joyce Bray and husband Gary of Stigler, Viva Birchell and husband James of Stigler, Phyllis Matias and husband Eddie of San Antonio, TX., Carolyn Ballard and late husband Lonnie of Eufaula, Brenda Graham and husband, Dave of Muskogee, one brother, Harold Powell and wife Joyce of Tamaha; sisters in law, Sue Powell, Shirley Williams, Linda Voss. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Geneva Powell; Father and Mother in law, J.C. and Sug McKinney; one sister and brother in law, Wanda and Donnel Bush; his brothers, Kenneth, Murl, Carl Ray, and Tommy Powell, as well as an infant brother; 2 nieces, Jennifer Burke and Billie Bullard; one nephew, Dennis Powell. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Faith Community Church with Pastors Bill and Mary Fitzer officiating. Pallbearers will Ricky Powell, Randy Powell, J.C. Bush, Ronald (Dink) Bush, Brian Madison, Dean Powell. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Bray, Jeff Bush, Corky Powell, Merle Ballard, Windle Ballard, Johhny Ballard and Lem Ballard. Burial will follow at Brooken Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by VFW Post #4446 of Stigler.
